Senior Geotechnical Manager 

CMS GeoScience is growing our marine geotechnical capability and we are seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Manager to lead the delivery and development of our marine geotechnical services. The role combines project leadership with technical oversight, mentoring and strategic input as we continue to grow our geoscience capabilities supporting offshore renewables, ports and marine infrastructure.

 

Role Overview

 

Based near Falmouth, Cornwall, working closely with operational, commercial and technical teams, the Senior Geotechnical Manager will lead the planning and delivery of CMS GeoScience’s marine geotechnical projects, supporting tenders, managing technical teams, and driving the growth of in-house capabilities including equipment and laboratory development.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage marine geotechnical site investigations from tender through to completion.

  • Provide technical input to bids, methodologies, costings and risk assessments.

  • Project manage geotechnical scopes including vibrocoring, seabed CPT, JUB drilling and environmental sampling campaigns.

  • Coordinate geotechnical equipment, resources and mobilisation planning.

  • Oversee geotechnical reporting standards, data quality and technical outputs.

  • Mentor and support geologists including junior staff, building internal capability.

  • Manage client relationships and act as technical focal point from Client engagement to project delivery.

  • Support the development and expansion of CMS GeoScience’s in-house geotechnical laboratory.

  • Work closely with operations and commercial teams to ensure safe and efficient project delivery.

  • Contribute to company growth strategy in home and overseas markets and development of new geotechnical services.

  •  Interest in helping build and grow geotechnical capability within a developing organisation.

 

The role in more detail: 

Project leadership and delivery

  • Lead and manage marine geotechnical investigations from tender stage through offshore execution and reporting.

  • Manage project schedules, technical risk, safety, quality and delivery performance.

  • Act as senior technical contact for clients throughout project lifecycles.

 

Tendering and technical input

  • Support preparation of technical proposals, methodologies and cost estimates.

  • Contribute to bid strategy and operational planning.

  • Ensure geotechnical scopes align with CMS GeoScience’s in-house capabilities and vessel operations.

 

Team leadership and development

  • Mentor and support geologists and geotechnical staff, promoting safety, best practice and technical growth.

  • Provide guidance on logging standards, reporting quality and interpretation.

  • Help build a strong, collaborative internal geotechnical team.

 

Equipment and laboratory development

  • Support coordination and utilisation of geotechnical equipment and tooling.

  • Contribute to the setup and development of CMS GeoScience’s in-house geotechnical laboratory.

  • Work with operations teams to improve efficiency and innovation in geotechnical delivery.

 

Strategic contribution

  • Play an active role in shaping the future growth of geotechnical services within CMS GeoScience.

  • Support development of integrated geotechnical, geophysical and environmental solutions.

  • Contribute ideas for new services, efficiencies and technical advancement.
