Job Summary:
As a Hydrographic Surveyor at CMS Geoscience, you will be responsible for conducting high-quality surveys using a wide range of equipment, including multibeam
echosounders, side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profilers, vibrocorers, and the Datem Neptune 5000 CPT system. Your role will involve planning, executing, and processing
survey data to support offshore geotechnical and environmental investigations. Working aboard the MV FlatHolm and other platforms, you will contribute to the successful delivery of projects in the offshore renewables and infrastructure sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
Survey Operations:
-
Mobilisation, operation, maintenance, and demobilisation of geophysical and hydrographic survey equipment onboard our 24m survey vessel and 3rd party vessels as required.

Plan and execute hydrographic and geophysical surveys using advanced equipment.

Operate and integrate survey systems, including multibeam, side-scan sonar, and sub-bottom profiling systems.

Support geotechnical operations, including vibrocoring and CPT deployment.

Data Collection and Processing:
-
Collect, process, and interpret hydrographic and geophysical data.

Ensure data quality control during surveys and post-processing.

Prepare survey reports and present findings to clients and project teams.

Equipment Maintenance:
-
Maintain and troubleshoot survey equipment to ensure optimal performance.

Conduct regular calibration of survey systems.

Safety and Compliance:
-
Adhere to all offshore safety standards and regulations.

Maintain accurate records of operations and compliance with project requirements.
Qualifications:
Essential:
-
Experience of Hydrographic/Geophysical survey equipment mobilisation and data acquisition
-
Competent with European geodesy & positioning systems & software eg EIVA, QINSY, Hypack, HydroPRO
-
Proven hands-on operational experience setting up and operating RTK GNSS, MBES, SSS, Mag, SBP, USBL and other marine survey equipment
-
ENG1 Medical & Offshore Sea Survival or equivalent
-
A full UK driving licence
-
Currently eligible to work in the UK
-
Strong IT & technical writing skills, especially in Microsoft 365
-
Fluent in spoken and written English
-
Already living or willingness to relocate within daily commuting distance of Falmouth

Software programming and or electronics / engineering experience

An interest / experience in remote USV operations

Experience of working in the shallow nearshore and coastal environments

Experience of mobilising and demobilising a variety of inshore to offshore vessels

Practically minded & ‘hands-on’ aptitude
-
Recreational offshore / marine experience and interests
